Debs LastArtist's Statement
I am a practicing artist and a fully trained art teacher and tutor.
I did my degree in Ceramics and Glass at Leicester but now I mostly work in painting but love to experiment with different materials and techniques.I spent seven years living in India were I was deeply influence by the colour and vibrancy of the culture. The inspiration for my landscape work is the light and textures of the views around us. In winter we are surrounded by the landscape stripped down to it barest; trees stand starkly against a bright afternoon sky and hedges cut back harshly offer a tangle of texture.Within the Stowe gardens another landscape emerges by man’s design. The Palladian bridge reflected in a glassy lake, swans scuff the water. The winter sun turns the stone to gold.I also frequently paint the figure often to tell a story or to present a relationship and not always a comfortable one. I am fascinated by what it means to be human and how that can be represented visually. The paintings that I produce are in watercolour, acrylic and oil.I am happy to accept commissions.More of my work can be found at : - www.deborahlast.co.uk/index.htmlI can be contacted at: - dlast@stowe.co.uk
