Life Models to Manga
by Emily Brady

Tuesday 7th September 2010

After the summer break we reconvened at Well St Church with a really excellent talk and demonstration by Emily.  Emily is a local Painter, Illustrator, Cartoonist and Tutor at the Buckingham Art School.  Using two models, Tom and Pete, Emily showed us a technique of how to sketch quick drawings of life models and then how to turn these into cartoon manga characters. Quite a bit of discussion ensued when Emily went on to talk about her method for creating cartoon comics.  After the break we all had an opportunity to have a go at sketching the two models.  I had no idea how complicated it is to create the images from a story line, which is how emily works with her co-writer Alice Nuttall, who provides her with the story.  A really engrossing evening was had by all.
