Local professional photographer and artist, John Credland, gave us a real treat where he offered us guidance on how to photograph work for publicity and web purposes. Members brought in a variety of works from a miniature behind convex glass, watercolours and photos also behind glass plus some acrylics and oils some of which had been varnished.
The main problem when photographing these pieces was how to elimimate reflections. John set up two camera rigs. The first was to show the professional approach using a horizontally tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix coupled to two stand mounted automatic flash guns at a 45 degree angle to the pictures. He showed us how to eliminate reflections by poking the camera lens through a piece of black card together with wrapping the tripod in a black sheet and then screening himself by standing behing a large piece of matt black fabric. The second rig showed how we might use our own equipment mounted vertically with the object to be photographed laid flat on a table. Two very inexpensive lamps were clamped to the table again at 45 degrees which were then filtered using two hand held translucent sheets of plastic to soften and spread the light more evenly.
John has kindly provided me copies of the photos that he took on the night and has said if anybody would like a copy then it is ok for me to pass them on. So if anybody would like one or more of the images then could you please email me feedback@buckinghamartforall.co.uk with the number or numbers of the images from the flash display on the right together with your name and email address with "JC Pictures" in the title of your message.
